The People We Are
PERSON(HOOD) is a dance-centered festival that draws to the surface our multiple relationships to our body, to self, and to society in our material world. We explore the ways in which we are connected to the past and the future, to our communities, our geophysical and sociopolitical ecosystems. The deepest philosophical challenge we all face today seems to be, “How do we get along?”. So we invite you to share in a celebration of contemporary, complex, contours of being human—of Human Being.
The shadows and the light. Joy, grief, intimacy, relationships, war, communion, abundance, scarcity, heritage, ecosystems, pleasure, strife—all of these and more are available for exploration. For contemplation. The festival centers interdisciplinary collaboration, conversations, and contemplative approaches to understanding what it might mean to be human today.
As we awaken more and more to the erosion of trust, community and compassion, people are turning to art, spirituality, and cultural production to reignite our connections ourselves and to each other. Sharing personal and communal stories about diverse yet deeply interconnected experiences is one way to recover personhood. We get to look at each other and not be afraid...together. This festival is an act of remembering. Remembering that beyond categories of class, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationality, and others...there is the person
